Our Story

Our Story

  • In 1971, employees of Standard Oil Research Center in Naperville, Illinois came together to cooperatively afford employees an opportunity to achieve their financial goals by founding Standard Oil Research Center Employee Federal Credit Union, later known as Amoco Federal Credit Union.
  • In 1987, the Credit Union branched out to share the cooperative spirit with additional select employer groups (SEGs).  While maintaining our presence on the Amoco, now BP, site, a new headquarters was established in the “N” building in Naperville, Illinois  and the credit union changed its name to NaperTech Federal Credit Union.
  • In 1997, the Board of Directors at NaperTech decided to adopt the name we are now known as, NorthStar Credit Union.  NorthStar was chosen to better represent the core values of the credit union and align with the mission of being the clear choice, or guiding light, for members financial service needs.
  • In 2001 headquarters moved to Warrenville, Illinois and the credit union obtained a community charter.  By obtaining a community charter, NorthStar is able to offer products and services to help improve the financial well being of anyone (and their family) that lives or works in zipcodes 60100-60599 in addition to those that work for one of our SEGs.
