December 1, 2017         Change in Branch Hours

It has been a very busy year as we have been working on numerous initiatives to improve efficiency and deliver ongoing value to you, our members. With that said, we realize that the vast majority of our attention has been focused on these initiatives and as a result, some of our service
levels may have fallen short of our expectations.

Our first and utmost core value is and always has been total member satisfaction. It is the cornerstone upon which our credit union was built. We recognize that it’s imperative that we get back to that basic, but extremely important foundation. With the growth we have experienced, we have added quite a few new employees to the NorthStar family to serve you.  However, we have also experienced greater turnover than we have ever been accustomed to historically. The current job market also seems to be making it increasingly difficult to acquire and retain quality employees.

As a result, in the New Year we plan to allocate much of our time and resources to the enhancement of our onboarding and employee training programs. In order to accomplish this in the most efficient manner possible, we have made the difficult decision to delay opening our branch offices until 10:00 AM on Wednesday mornings beginning January 3, 2018. This time will be dedicated 100% to employee education and development. 

While alternative banking options such as remote deposit (Click Deposit), online banking/bill payment, telephone banking and our ATM networks will remain accessible 24/7, we realize this may cause some inconvenience and we wish to apologize in advance. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure our team is the best of the best when it comes to serving you.

We know much of what we are experiencing is growing pains. Overall, it has been a great year at NorthStar thanks to loyal members like you. However, we know that we can do better! With an increased focus on member service and employee development, 2018 looks to be an amazing year!

The team at NorthStar is excited to announce the offering of an updated mobile app, available for Apple and Android devices. We’ve listened to your feedback to improve our mobile banking experience and have created a new all-in-one app that we're confident you will love!

Watch for the announcement that the new app is live, then simply download “NorthStar CU" from the appropriate app store for your device and delete the old mobile app. All old NorthStar CU and Oak Trust CU mobile apps will discontinued and unsupported as of 12/31/2017, so make sure to upgrade when the new app goes live!  Use your It's Me 24/7 login to access your account features. Learn more about our app!

September 09, 2017      Equifax Announces Data Breach

Equifax, one of the three major credit reporting agencies in the U.S., announced a data breach that affects 143 million consumers. The hackers accessed Social Security numbers, birthdates, addresses, and driver’s license numbers.

Equifax has launched a tool that will let you know if you were affected by the breach. Visit Equifax’s website dedicated to this breach to learn if you were impacted. You will need to provide your last name and the last six numbers of your Social Security number.

If you are impacted, Equifax offers you a free credit monitoring service, TrustedIDPremier. However, you won’t be able to enroll in it immediately. You will be given a date when you can return to the site to enroll. Equifax will not send you a reminder to enroll. Mark that date on your calendar, so you can start monitoring your credit as soon as possible.

March 14, 2017              Allpoint ATM Network Disruption RESOLVED!

We have been notified of a temporary service disruption impacting NorthStar members and the ability to utilize the Allpoint ATM network. We are working diligently with our vendors to resolve the issue as soon as possible.  We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we work to restore service.

March 1, 2017                Document Shredding & Electronics Recycling Event

On Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 9am - 12pm NorthStar will be hosting it's annual Spring Document Shredding & Electronic's Recycling Event at the Main Office located at 3S555 Winfield Road, Warrenville, IL 60555.

Members, friends and family in the community are invited out to take advantage of this free service designed to help you keep your personal/sensitive information safe!  Limit of 2 boxes, and no tube televisions/monitors can be accepted for recycling.

While you're dusting off your electronics and combing through your old papers, don't forget to clean out your pantry too!  We'll be collecting non-perishable items for local food pantries as well as cash donations for the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Thank you in advance for helping feed local hungry families!

January 30, 2017            VISA Chip Debit Cards are Coming!

We are excited to share that NorthStar will begin issuing Visa® debit cards featuring chip technology and a fresh new look beginning this February! This is great news, because chip technology provides an added layer of security to your card at no cost to you. 

How is the chip card more secure? The chip stores data on your card that is much harder to counterfeit. Every time you use your card, the data on the chip changes making it difficult to copy. Chip card use is already common around the world and is growing in the United States. If you’re an international traveler, purchases will be easier in over 130 countries, including Mexico, Canada and the United Kingdom because of the widespread use of chip cards.

When will I receive my card? All new cards issued after February 1st will automatically be issued as Visa® debit cards featuring chip technology. Existing card members will begin receiving communication in the coming weeks regarding the reissue timeline for active cards as well as a list of frequently asked questions. Members that currently have inactive cards will receive communication allowing for the opportunity to request a new card.   Get more information on our Visa Chip Debit Cards.

December 1, 2016             Upcoming OTCU Paper Statement Fee

Former Oak Trust Credit Union members will begin to see a $2.50 paper statement fee in January 2017 if you have not yet made the switch to E-Statements and do not qualify for a waiver.  As a not-for-profit financial institution we do not like charging fees; however, in some cases it is necessary to pass on expense to provide overall value in our products and services to the membership.  Please read this letter from our Vice President of Operations for more information and  to learn how you can avoid the fee.

Good news!  iOS mobile deposit services through NSCU Mobile Deposit have been restored.  Users should process any application updates before use.  You will receive an email confirmation when your deposit(s) has been received and processed.  Be sure to check your junk/spam folder if you do not see confirmation in your inbox.

Be sure to notify us at to prevent any disruption with your debit card.  Note, if you forget to notify us, your PIN number will still provide cash access in the case of an emergency.
