March 17, 2019 Debit Card Change in Terms
Periodically Visa® makes revisions to the terms associated with your NorthStar Visa® debit card. As such, we would like to inform you that effective April 13, 2019 Visa® will revise the International Service Assessment (ISA) Single Currency rates from 0.8% to 1.0%. The rate for Multi-Currency will remain unchanged at 1.0%.
This change will have little impact on the majority of our members. However, those of you traveling internationally will see a slight change in conversion.

February 8, 2019 Intermittent Online & Mobile
Our online and mobile banking applications are now available; however, they may experience intermittent issues throughout the weekend.
Our primary servers are located in an area of the country that has been hit hard with widespread icing and power outages. Systems have since switched over to our backup servers, and we have resumed normal operations in all of our branch locations.

February 6, 2019 Upgrade to TLS 1.2 Encryption
As of Friday morning, February 8th, NorthStar's website will require TLS 1.2 or later encryption in order to maintain the highest security standards and promote the safety of member data.
Older web browsers may require configuration changes, and some are NOT compatible with TLS 1.2. Users with browsers or operating systems that are not compatible will need to upgrade to newer software.

May 17, 2018 Mobile App Enhancement
Recently we published an update to the NorthStar mobile app providing greater convenience and security upon login. The enhancement enabled new authentication options including fingerprint, 4-digit PIN, facial recognition, and voice recognition.
If your device is not configured for automatic app updates, simply perform an update to your NorthStar app to take advantage of this new benefit. Learn more about our mobile app!

February 28, 2018 NorthStar CU Credit Card Account Reminders
As a reminder, NorthStar Credit Union credit cards will no longer work as of today. If we have not heard from you regarding your account intentions, any outstanding balance will be converted to a closed-end, fixed loan at the same interest rate and payment of your card. You will receive correspondence in the mail confirming the details as well as instructions as to where you should direct future payments.

As a reminder, Oak Trust Credit Union credit cards will no longer work as of tomorrow. Heritage OTCU cardholders should have received a welcome letter and new NorthStar Credit Union cards issued by Elan Financial Services in the mail.

January 15, 2018 Termination of Credit Card Accounts
In August of 2017, you received a letter informing you of the upcoming termination of the NorthStar
Credit Union credit card program coming this February. We recognize the potential inconvenience this
presents, and we are committed to assisting you with the transition to a suitable account alternative.
With that said, the New Year is now upon us and February will be here before we know it. Therefore,
we would like to remind you that action is needed with your card in order to ensure a smooth transition.

Oak Trust Credit Union credit card holders, you received notification in January about change to your card that will become effective in February. Please note your existing card will no longer work as of February 28, 2018. A new NorthStar Credit Union card will be issued through Elan Financial Services featuring a new account number and expiration date. Your points will transition to your new card and you will benefit from an industry leading rewards program. December 1, 2017 Change in Branch Hours
It has been a very busy year as we have been working on numerous initiatives to improve efficiency and deliver ongoing value to you, our members. With that said, we realize that the vast majority of our attention has been focused on these initiatives and as a result, some of our service
levels may have fallen short of our expectations.
Our first and utmost core value is and always has been total member satisfaction. It is the cornerstone upon which our credit union was built. We recognize that it’s imperative that we get back to that basic, but extremely important foundation. With the growth we have experienced, we have added quite a few new employees to the NorthStar family to serve you. However, we have also experienced greater turnover than we have ever been accustomed to historically. The current job market also seems to be making it increasingly difficult to acquire and retain quality employees.
As a result, in the New Year we plan to allocate much of our time and resources to the enhancement of our onboarding and employee training programs. In order to accomplish this in the most efficient manner possible, we have made the difficult decision to delay opening our branch offices until 10:00 AM on Wednesday mornings beginning January 3, 2018. This time will be dedicated 100% to employee education and development.
While alternative banking options such as remote deposit (Click Deposit), online banking/bill payment, telephone banking and our ATM networks will remain accessible 24/7, we realize this may cause some inconvenience and we wish to apologize in advance. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure our team is the best of the best when it comes to serving you.
We know much of what we are experiencing is growing pains. Overall, it has been a great year at NorthStar thanks to loyal members like you. However, we know that we can do better! With an increased focus on member service and employee development, 2018 looks to be an amazing year!

The team at NorthStar is excited to announce the offering of an updated mobile app, available for Apple and Android devices. We’ve listened to your feedback to improve our mobile banking experience and have created a new all-in-one app that we're confident you will love!
Watch for the announcement that the new app is live, then simply download “NorthStar CU" from the appropriate app store for your device and delete the old mobile app. All old NorthStar CU and Oak Trust CU mobile apps will discontinued and unsupported as of 12/31/2017, so make sure to upgrade when the new app goes live! September 09, 2017 Equifax Announces Data Breach
Equifax, one of the three major credit reporting agencies in the U.S., announced a data breach that affects 143 million consumers. The hackers accessed Social Security numbers, birthdates, addresses, and driver’s license numbers.
Equifax has launched a tool that will let you know if you were affected by the breach. Visit Equifax’s website dedicated to this breach to learn if you were impacted. You will need to provide your last name and the last six numbers of your Social Security number.
If you are impacted, Equifax offers you a free credit monitoring service, TrustedIDPremier. However, you won’t be able to enroll in it immediately. You will be given a date when you can return to the site to enroll. Equifax will not send you a reminder to enroll. Mark that date on your calendar, so you can start monitoring your credit as soon as possible.
If you detect suspicious activity on your credit report due to the breach, learn how to report suspicious activity immediately.
The FTC also offers more information to protect yourself after a data breach. Learn how to report and recover from identity theft at IdentityTheft.gov.
August 9, 2017 Termination of Credit Card Accounts
NorthStar Credit Union credit cardholders should have received a letter updating you about upcoming changes to our credit card program. After a thorough review of our in-house credit card program we have come to the realization that we are simply unable to provide the level of value necessary in today’s marketplace without drastically increasing costs to you.
Therefore, as of February 28, 2018, this credit card program is being terminated. Please do not use
your credit card for any new purchases, cash advances or any other purposes beyond this date. Several options are available to transition any outstanding balances. If you currently have a NorthStar Credit Union credit card, it is important that you contact us as soon as possible to discuss how you would like to proceed.
Additionally, as indicated in your June statement, the Scorecard Rewards program has been terminated
and you have until August 31, 2017 to redeem your points. Visit www.scorecardrewards.com or call

March 14, 2017 Allpoint ATM Network Disruption RESOLVED!
We have been notified of a temporary service disruption impacting NorthStar members and the ability to utilize the Allpoint ATM network. March 1, 2017 Document Shredding & Electronics Recycling Event
On Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 9am - 12pm NorthStar will be hosting it's annual Spring Document Shredding & Electronic's Recycling Event at the Main Office located at 3S555 Winfield Road, Warrenville, IL 60555.
Members, friends and family in the community are invited out to take advantage of this free service designed to help you keep your personal/sensitive information safe! Limit of 2 boxes, and no tube televisions/monitors can be accepted for recycling.
While you're dusting off your electronics and combing through your old papers, don't forget to clean out your pantry too! We'll be collecting non-perishable items for local food pantries as well as cash donations for the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Thank you in advance for helping feed local hungry families!
January 30, 2017 VISA Chip Debit Cards are Coming!
We are excited to share that NorthStar will begin issuing Visa® debit cards featuring chip technology and a fresh new look beginning this February! This is great news, because chip technology provides an added layer of security to your card at no cost to you.
How is the chip card more secure? The chip stores data on your card that is much harder to counterfeit. Every time you use your card, the data on the chip changes making it difficult to copy. Chip card use is already common around the world and is growing in the United States. If you’re an international traveler, purchases will be easier in over 130 countries, including Mexico, Canada and the United Kingdom because of the widespread use of chip cards.
When will I receive my card? All new cards issued after February 1st will automatically be issued as Visa® debit cards featuring chip technology. Existing card members will begin receiving communication in the coming weeks regarding the reissue timeline for active cards as well as a list of frequently asked questions. December 1, 2016 Upcoming OTCU Paper Statement Fee
Former Oak Trust Credit Union members will begin to see a $2.50 paper statement fee in January 2017 if you have not yet made the switch to E-Statements and do not qualify for a waiver. As a not-for-profit financial institution we do not like charging fees; however, in some cases it is necessary to pass on expense to provide overall value in our products and services to the membership.
